The Rabbi will present a comprehensive 3-hour discourse on the exciting topic
of "Copopods in my toilet - can I flush or not?"
As many of you know, the entymological society of Boro Park, together with
a widely respected kashruth organization, has declared war on these
microscopic organisms that are found in the city's water supply.
Water filtration systems were quickly installed at all yeshivot and
kosher establishments.
And, these filters were made available to the general populace for home
use too.
However, unlike drinking tap water, there is presently no way to filter
toilet water. Furthermore, whereas most of the organisms are dead in the
water, a few are NOT. Some are just pretending to be dead. Some are
simply taking a nap.
For example, The Rabbi will grapple with the following halachic issues:
- tzar ba'alei chaim, when flushing the live organisms
- netilas neshama on shabbos
(unless you practice "shev v'al ta'aseh" when using the facilities)
- the requirement to feed the organisms before you eat a meal, as you
would your cow or ox.
